We offer unusual audio technologies, robust solutions to noise problems, and continually regenerating soundscapes with multichannel spatialization.
Read more about our most popular products:
Private garden sound: Immersive sound environments that are custom-composed to client musical interests, based on local nature sounds. An ideal solution to the problems of urban traffic noise, and to create a contemplative, artistic garden space.
Labyrinth and healing sound: In 2012, Livingston Sound began to investigate the possibilities of guiding a meditative experience through the single winding path of a labyrinth through an immersive sound field, tuned to the frequencies of planets, chakras, and the neighboring environment. Labyrinths are a form of land art that is effective at shaping the way one experiences a landscape, while also transporting the visitor beyond that local experience. The sound design follows that same principle, to support a profound and introspective experience.
Birds of Invention: Formerly called "Imaginary Birds", these invented birds are placed in bamboo birdcages which then resonate with their invented sound, musical compositions that follow the rules of bird communication, yet are original in conception. And according to the way our real biome is sonically shaped, all the sounds mesh together in a perfect puzzle-like counterpoint, providing the perfect complement to your garden or home.
Gardens for ears only: As we develop more and more creative approaches to shaping the outdoor environment with aesthetic punctuation and shading, the multi-sensory approach leads one to solutions that are effective for guiding, orienting and entertaining the visually impaired. Sound cues in our system can orient the visitor to the path, to different zones in the garden, and to the colors of the sky. Sound design can be matched to seasons, to weather, to the bloom of a flower, providing an extra dose of sensation which helps to bring forth the energies of the visual to those who are just listening.
Botanical and sculpture gardens: Larger-scale projects for public spaces that include live performance spectacles as well as sculptural installed components that connect to the site and emit sound. Includes the development of educational components for botanical gardens, connecting to the local flora, fauna and naturescapes in a whimsical, informative manner.
Furniture Music: Livingston Sound has a line of functional sound sculptures for indoor and outdoor installation. The chairs and benches produce sound that radiates through the listener's body, connecting one to the tactile experience of playing a musical instrument.
Site Colors: Livingston Sound collects and catalogs color schemes from nature related to an individual site, throughout the changing seasons. These color schemes are then made into various visual and video installations that can be exhibited. Also, we can develop interior design and fashion concepts from these colors, building brand identity. This service is recommended for wineries, green business, conservancy NGOs, and other clients wishing to define their relationship to the environment.
Site Sounds: Livingston Sound records 24 hour samples of sound from a single site, at regular intervals throughout one year. These sounds can be used to paint a picture of ecological health and diversity at the site. We can edit them together into naturescape CDs to build your business' brand awareness, centered on connections to the land. This can be paired with site video and released as a client-branded DVD or audio CD.
Traffic Noise Mitigation: An essential functional aspect of our sound design for gardens is the creation of immersive sound fields which mitigate the perception of outside traffic noise. The cocoon of sound envelops the listener, turning the focus inwards.
